Photorejuvenation with Intense Pulsed Light

Intense Pulsed Light Treatment is a new and unique use of beyond-laser pulsed light technology. The procedure was developed to rejuvenate skin with no patient downtime. Using a series of full-face treatments and specific light parameters, consistent and dramatic improvements can be seen in sun damage, flushing, redness and broken capillaries.

All patients observe smoother skin with visible improvement in irregular pigmentation, fine wrinkles and pore size.
Flushing, redness and symptoms of rosacea improve on average more than seventy-five percent following treatments.
Each treatment takes twenty minutes, requires no anesthesia, and patients are able to return to full activities immediately after treatments.

Photorejuvenation FAQ

What is photorejuvenation?
The process of improving the skin color and texture through the use of light is known as Photorejuvenation. Photo = light, rejuvenation = to make revitalizing improvements in the skin, is not new and has been accomplished for many years using chemical peeling, laser resurfacing and dermabrasion. These procedures, while effective, involve removal of the outermost layer of skin. For this reason these invasive procedures require a recuperation period of several days to months.

Photorejuvenation through Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) is one of the most remarkable advances in skin care. This process was approved by the FDA in 1997. IPL non-laser technology, supplies a broad spectrum of light that reaches deep down to the collagen level of the skin to produce remarkable results. The therapeutic light energy is transformed to heat energy. The target tissue is then fragmented and absorbed without damage to the surrounding skin. The skin surface is left smooth and rejuvenated with NO DOWN TIME.

Who is a candidate for photorejuvenation treatments?
Using Intense Pulsed Light, we can simultaneously treat a wide range of facial concerns safely and effectively, such as broken capillaries, skin discoloration, age spots, freckles, mottled pigmentation and the symptoms of rosacea. Photorejuvenation also provides long-term improvement of complexion and skin texture including the smoothing of fine lines and wrinkles, with NO DOWN TIME.

What do the photorejuvenation treatments entail?
The patient cleanses their skin, then reclines in a lounge treatment chair wearing dark-protective glasses. A cool gel is applied to the area being treated, the smooth glass surface of the IPL hand piece is gently placed on the gel near the skin and gentle pulses of light are applied. When the treatment is completed, the gel is removed and the patient is ready to go home or back to work with absolutely NO DOWN TIME. We then recommend that a hydrating cream with sunscreen be applied.

Does Photorejuvenation hurt?
No. We use a topical anesthetic cream to be put on one hour prior to treatment. This ensures that your experience will be comfortable.

How many treatments are required?
A series of five treatments are scheduled. Each treatment takes less than one hour to perform. Appointments are approximately three weeks apart and take fifteen weeks to complete. Improvement is gradual, and it has been demonstrated that the majority of people will achieve their desired effect after five treatments.

What improvements will be noticed after a series of five treatments is finished?
Skin will look refreshed and rejuvenated. Improvement in tone and texture of skin is experienced. A significant reduction of brown and red areas of discoloration, small red blood vessels (spider veins) and pore size occurs as well as reduction of irregular pigmentation. As a later appearing benefit (often with continuing improvements even months after treatment), skin texture is noticeably effected with the smoothing of fine lines and wrinkles. Skin has a healthy revitalized glow following Intense Pulsed Light Photorejuvenation.

Can the same results be accomplished with microdermabration?
No, but Intense Pulsed Facial Rejuvenation can be combined with microdermabrasion for greater effectiveness and faster results in achieving greatly improved skin condition and appearance.
