LASIK ~ The Procedure of Choice
With the recent advancements in excimer laser technology, hundreds of thousands of individuals
around the world are able to work and play without glasses or contacts for most, if not all, of their
activities.
How Does it Work?
For those who are nearsighted, the excimer laser gently evaporates tissue in the center of the cornea,
making it flatter so that light rays are focused directly on the retina instead of in front of it.
For those who are farsighted, the excimer laser gently evaporates tissue around the outside of the
cornea to make it steeper, so that light rays are focused directly on the retina instead of behind it.
For those who have astigmatism, the excimer laser gently evaporates tissue where the cornea is uneven,
so that light rays are not distorted.
The Benefits of LASIK
LASIK offers improved vision without pain! Topical eye drops are used prior to surgery to
anesthetize the eye.
The actual procedure takes just seconds for each eye, and in just minutes patients are out of the
on-site surgery suite and on their way to the clear vision they have dreamed of.
Many patients experience a dramatic improvement in their vision within hours, and most are able to
return to their normal activities in just a day or two.
The cornea has extraordinary bonding qualities, enabling it to heal rapidly without the use of stitches.
Patients wear clear plastic shields over their eyes for approximately 24 hours after their surgery, and at night for several weeks.
There are minimal risks. Complications and infections are rare.
