David J. Gajda, MD
Ophthalmologist

Dr. Gajda graduated from Queen's University School of Medicine in Ontario, Canada in 1988. He went on to complete his internship at Queen's University and residency at Dalhousie University, Nova Scotia, Canada. Dr. Gajda specializes in comprehensive ophthalmology, cataract, and laser surgery. He has been in private practice since 1994 in Wyoming and joined the Eye Life Institute in 2011. He is a Board Certified Ophthalmologist as well as a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. Dr. Gajda enjoys spending time with his family and is an avid skier, swimmer, and a hockey fan.

Jerome W.H. Niswonger, MD, MPH
Ophthalmologist

Dr. Niswonger graduated from Loma Linda University School of Medicine in 1962. He completed his internship and residency at Los Angeles County Hospital and began his medical career as an Obstetrician. In 1981, Dr. Niswonger completed his residency in Ophthalmology at Loma Linda University Medical Center and received his certification from the American Board of Ophthalmology in 1982. He also has a Master's Degree in Public Health from the University of California – LA. Dr. Niswonger founded the Eye Life Institute in 1988 and is a specialist in comprehensive ophthalmology, cataract, and laser surgery. His interests include travel, Biblical archeology and mountain climbing.

David G. Telander, MD, PhD
Ophthalmologist

Dr. Telander graduated from University of Minnesota School of Medicine in 1999 and completed his internship at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis and residency at the University of Minnesota. He went on to complete a Fellowship in retinal surgery at the Jules Stein Eye Institute in Los Angeles. Dr. Telander is a retinal specialist and assistant professor from the University of California Davis Health System, Department of Ophthalmology. He is a Board Certified Ophthalmologist and provides Eye Life a highly specialized consultation in the diagnosis and treatment of complex diseases of the retina.

Henry I. Baylis, MD, FACS
Ophthalmologist & Cosmetic Surgeon

Dr. Baylis graduated from the University of Michigan Medical School and completed his ophthalmology residency at University of California – San Francisco. He completed his Fellowship in Ophthalmic Plastic Surgery at Manhattan Eye, Ear, and Throat Hospital in New York City. Dr. Baylis is the founding chief of oculoplastic surgery at UCLA. He has been an Ophthalmologist and Cosmetic Surgeon since 1967 and specializes in oculoplastic surgery and reconstructive surgery of the eyelids. His publications include chapters in many textbooks and over 100 articles in peer review journals.

Randall R. McPherran, OD, FAAO
Doctor of Optometry

Dr. McPherran completed his professional education at the Pennsylvania College of Optometry in 1988, and is residency trained in pediatrics. He is an Associate Clinical Professor at the UC Berkeley School of Optometry. Dr. McPherran is a well recognized national lecturer and has authored or co-authored several clinically related articles. He currently serves as the Chief of UC Berkeley Eye Services at Castle Family Health Center in Atwater, CA. Dr. McPherran joined the Eye Life Institute in 2001 and specializes in comprehensive eye care and is certified in glaucoma care. He enjoys being with his family, scuba diving, and performing volunteer work for the under-privileged.
