When a cataract forms, the lens of the eye becomes cloudy. Light cannot pass through it easily, and vision is blurred.
What is a cataract? ~ A cataract is a clouding of the normally clear lens of the eye. It can be compared to a window that is frosted or “fogged” with steam.

Cataracts are a part of the normal aging process. Two-thirds of people over age 65 experience some loss of vision due to cataracts.

How is cataract treated? ~ Surgery is the only way your ophthalmologist can remove the cataract. Cataract surgery should be considered when cataracts cause enough loss of vision to interfere with daily activities. Over 1.4 million people have cataract surgery each year in the United States.

Dr. Niswonger performs small-incision, no-stitch surgeries at Eye Life Institute’s outpatient surgery center. This provides state-of-the-art technology with the highest level of safety. On the day of surgery, you will have the comfort of being cared for by the same people you have come to know and trust during your office visits.

If you think a cataract may be clouding your view let Eye Life Institute appraise your condition and clear your vision with cataract surgery if that is the problem.
